January 2026 – Afterhours Medical Van Service

The Afterhours Emergency Med Van is available throughout January 2026 to support community members outside regular clinic hours. Service is available Monday to Friday from 4:30 PM to 8:30 AM, and 24 hours on Saturdays and Sundays. The on-call provider rotates weekly. Please refer to the schedule for dates and contact information to ensure timely access to care when it’s needed most.

Regalia Making – Every Tuesday

Mitaanjigamiing First Nation Roundhouse

Community members are invited to take part in Regalia Making, a weekly hands-on gathering beginning Tuesday, January 20, 2026, and continuing every Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the MFN Roundhouse. This on-going event offers a supportive space to create, learn, and work on your own regalia alongside others, sharing skills, stories, and creativity. Lunch will be provided for registered participants only, and those who have access to a sewing machine are encouraged to bring it, as machines are limited. This program is proudly sponsored by Minowaanigitiwawin.

Proposal Writing Workshop & Funders Forum

Rainy River Future Development Corporation (RRFDC) invites small businesses, community groups, municipalities, and non-profit organizations across the Rainy River District to attend the Proposal Writing Workshop & Funders Forum on Tuesday, January 27, 2026, from 1:00–4:00 PM CST at the Fort Frances Library & Technology Centre – Shaw Room (with virtual attendance available). This afternoon session is designed to help turn strong ideas into well-funded projects through practical proposal-writing tips, direct insight from funding organizations, and opportunities for Q&A and networking with potential funders. A Nurse Practitioner from the Gizhewaadiziwin Health Access Centre will be available for in-person appointments at the Health Office on Wednesday, January 28, from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. This visit provides community members with access to primary health care services locally. Community Kitchen

MFN Multi-Use Facility

Join Janet from Gizhewaadiziwin Health Access Centre for a hands-on Community Kitchen session focused on preparing healthy meals. Participants are asked to please bring their own containers to take food home. The Community Kitchen will take place on January 29, 2026, at 11:00 AM at the Multi-Use Facility.

Governance Youth Gathering

Mitaanjigamiing First Nation invites youth and young adults to take part in the Governance Youth Gathering on Thursday, January 29, 2026 - at the MFN Roundhouse. Open to ages 16 to 35, this gathering is an opportunity to learn more about governance, leadership, and how youth voices shape the future of the community. Dinner will be served at 5:00 PM, followed by a meaningful discussion to 7:00 PM. Come out and connect, share your perspective, and be part of the conversation shaping tomorrow’s leaders.

Mitaanjigamiing First Nation invites youth of all ages (0–30) to take part in the Leading Our Futures Youth Gathering on January 30 & 31, 2026, at The Rendezvous. This two-day gathering runs from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM daily and brings together culture, learning, creativity, and connection. Youth will participate in hands-on sessions coordinated by community leaders, including Childcare Law Development with Danielle Morrison, Language Teachings with Roy Tom, Birch Bark Making with Alyssa Lentz, and Tobacco Bag Making with Shyla Hourie.

The gathering also features an evening dance on January 30 from 5:00–8:00 PM with a DJ and Penny Table, $3,500 in prizes, daily $500 door prizes, and SWAG for participants. Heavy Equipment Operator Training — Limited Spots

Quetico Lodge and Conference Centre 1130 Highway 633, Kawene, Ontario, Canada

The Seven Generations Education Institute is offering a free six-week Heavy Equipment Operator Training Program from February 1 to March 13, 2026, held at Quetico Lodge and Conference Centre. Participants will receive hands-on training and industry-recognized certifications including WHMIS, First Aid & CPR, Working at Heights, and heavy equipment operation for loaders, excavators, dozers, and rock trucks. Eligible youth aged 18–30 will have tuition, PPE, travel from Fort Frances, accommodations, meals, training allowances, and a completion bonus fully covered—plus access to an eight-week quality employment opportunity following graduation. Save the Date: Community Update with Don Morrison

MFN Multi-Use Facility

Join us on Monday, February 2 at 11:00 AM for a community presentation with Don Morrison, Board Director with Grand Council Treaty 3. Don will provide an update on the Ontario First Nations Limited Partnership, along with a sovereign wealth update, offering insight into ongoing and future economic initiatives. The presentation will take place at the MFN Multi-Use and will include welcome remarks, the presentation by Don, followed by lunch and a Q&A session.

Planning for Tomorrow: Understanding Wills & Estate Planning

Calder Law Firm will be visiting Mitaanjigamiing First Nation on Tuesday, February 3, 2026, from 9:00–11:00 AM to host an informative session on the importance of having a legal will. This session will cover who needs a will, how to draft one, how to update an existing will, and include a Q&A to address common questions. Open to community members looking to better understand estate planning and protect their wishes. Please note - funding from Advisory Services will end on March 31, 2026 to support the preparation of Wills - Will must be completed before March 31, 2026.

Community Sweat

Community members are invited to take part in a Community Sweat on Saturday, February 7, beginning at 2:00 PM. This sweat lodge ceremony will be conducted by Gary Councillor and is open to everyone seeking reflection, healing, and connection in a supportive, culturally grounded space.
